The return of Pride Cup, 2016 bangs open in its 10th consecutive year creating history and giving opportunity in the game of cricket here in UAE through its Inter-School & Inter-University cricket tournament boasting some of the top cricketing talent. Pride cup, a PAN UAE inter-university cricket tournament features the top universities battling against each other in a league cum knockout round. Maxtalent Global Sports because of its great achievements in the cricket world recently got recognized in a worldwide video release to approximately 220 countries posted by ICC Cricket 360 as ‘Crickets rise in UAE feat. Maxtalent Global Sports’. All thanks to the hardship, commitment to the growth of youth and the dream of Mr.Sudhakar Shetty, Managing Director of Maxtalent to achieve this great 10 year milestone.
The tournament started with last year winners Amity University facing a pumped up Skyline University as Adnan Khan a former Heriot Watt blaster joined newly in the academic year at Skyline University. Having a successful stinge at Heriot Watt Adnan was determined to perform the same as he scored 71 runs off 43 balls giving a good start to Skyline University in this opening game of the tournament. Amity who batted first fell short of 20 to 30 runs of the target they wanted to defend. Managing to score 145 runs on the board Skyline captain Farhan Babar took no chance and finished the game in 17.1 over’s. Amity University unlike the previous years had a tough time forming the team with new entrants coming in but captain Oswin Crasta really appreciated the boys performance and believes what they scored was pretty decent for the first game and will prove their worth with a win in the coming matches of the tournament.
The second game of the day saw a pretty experienced and well balanced sides as Heriot Watt faced American University of Sharjah in their first league match. Heriot Watt who have been making its way to the finals for a couple of years showed the level of experienced players they possessed under the like of Chirag Suri and Rohit Jamwal who have been representing UAE U19 and the ones who have benefitted directly through tournaments such as Vision cup and Pride cup organized by Maxtalent Global Sports. Osama Butt showed no mercy towards the opposition as he hammered a whopping 86 runs in 54 balls helping the team reach the target of 195 runs. Rest of the runs were contributed by Karan Achuthanand and Faizan Ahmed giving them a good target total. Getting off to a good start AUS were focused on the game plan but got off board with captain Umar Sheikh and Varun Sharma got caught before the ropes. Heriot Watt’s Prateek Hiranandani’s excellent spell of 4wickets for 24 runs toppled the AUS batting line up and some brilliant catches let AUS get into a tight match situation eventually letting go of the match at 141 runs of the board. Sharing the experience of the journey of this tournament Rohit Singh expressed his heart felt kind words of appreciation to Sudhakar Shetty for providing this platform to the youth all over UAE for 10 straight years.
